Dapa Balloons began as a partnership between Dawn Kubler and Pat O'connor
back in 1980. It was
born out of a garage in Queens, New York primarily as a balloon
delivery business to service
the bank where both partners were employed. The name "DAPA" was
derived from the two first
initials of each partner's name. The delivery business in time
grew into a part-time balloon
decorating service with wedding receptions as the primary focus
of their decorating business
and still continued as a well-established balloon delivery business.
In 1989, the bank where
both partners were employed in management positions made a business
decision to move the bank
to Delaware.
At that time, the partners made decisions to go in two separate
directions. Pat O'Connor went
to work for a rival credit card processor in Jacksonville, Florida
and Dawn Kubler opted to
relocate with the Bank to Delaware. At that time the partnership
was dissolved and each went
in their separate directions. Once settled in Delaware, Dawn
Kubler decided to revive the
decorating business on a part-time basis and take in a new partner.
John Spina joined the
business in early 1990 and they both decided to keep the name,
which had been established in
New York. The business started off slowly in Delaware and soon,
through hard work and dedication
to the art of balloon decorating, Dapa Balloons quickly became
a very established and respected
business in Delaware. Dapa Balloons continued as a part-time
business until early 1992 at which
time Dawn Kubler ended her 20 year career with Chemical Bank
and dedicated her time and efforts
100% to the fine art of Balloon Decorating.
In 1995, Dawn completed a comprehensive certification program
and earned her Certified Balloon
Artist recognition. This earned her the title of being the
First Balloon Decorator in Delaware
to become certified through the Worldwide Qualatex Balloon Network.
In 1996 as the business
continued to prosper, the partners made a decision to Incorporate
and the corporate name became
Dapa Associates, Inc., doing business as "Dapa Balloons". The
business continues to stay on
the cutting edge of Balloon Artistry through continual educational
classes and conventions
around the country, as well as industry videos and a strong
network association with other
Balloon Artists throughout the United States. The main focus
of the business has always been
and continues to be Quality State of the Art Balloon Decorating
with a strong emphasis on
Customer Service, Dependability and Professionalism under all
circumstances. The company
employs approximately 9 fully trained, part-time employees that
also focus on the same work
ethics as the owners.
The company's clients are mainly comprised of major corporations
based in Delaware and the
tri-State area, with a second strong background in private events
such as wedding receptions,
bar & bat mitzvahs, as well as being a leader in balloon deliveries
throughout New Castle County.
They treat each customer with the respect that each and every
client deserves regardless of
the size of the event.
